Therapeutic
Learning Center - Certified ESE Teacher - PreK
The Therapeutic Learning Center is in search of
a pre-kindergarten special education teacher for the 25-26 school year.
Classroom teachers at the TLC are responsible for the early education of children
in their care. Duties and responsibilities of the classroom teacher include
developing and delivering interactive learning programs designed to engage and
educate young children with special needs.
Key Responsibilities:
●
Knowledge of
early childhood development and milestones; experience working with students
that have developmental delays, medical complexities and other disabilities.
●
Knowledge and
understanding of student behavioral needs and how to effectively implement
classroom management strategies to mitigate behaviors with an emphasis on
safety, care, and dignity. All staff are provided with crisis and de-escalation
training at the start of the school year.
●
Implement
engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons to students, and monitor to
make adjustments as needed. Emphasis in meeting individual learner needs and
understanding different learning styles. Effectively implement instruction in
the areas of:
o
Curriculum and
Learning - Pre-Academics, Kindergarten Readiness
o
Social-Emotional
- Social Skills, Peer Interactions, Self-Regulation
o
Communication
o
Independent
Functioning - Hygiene, Feeding, Safety, Learner Behaviors
o
Utilize
play-based learning to facilitate instructional goals.
●
Write and follow
through with Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and maintain compliance
including creating and documenting student goals, collecting data, and
assessing students effectively to prescribe actions for improvement.
●
Work
collaboratively with the instructional team with effective communication; be
able to solve problems and challenges independently and with the team using
sensitivity and tact.
●
Build meaningful
and communicative relationships with staff, students, and families to promote
an inclusive and supportive environment for all. Keep staff and families
informed of student needs and progress.
●
Prepare classroom
materials including printing and laminating for visuals, art projects,
communication and behavioral supports, etc.
●
Assist with
student hygiene and independent functioning needs including, but not limited
to: toilet training and toileting assistance (changing diapers), handwashing,
feeding.
●
Organization of
classroom structure and physical environment including building schedules,
creating student groups, delegating tasks to support staff, and assisting with
daily cleaning and organizational tasks.
Qualifications:
●
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Exceptional Student
Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field
●
Licensure: Current and valid Florida Teaching Certificate
- must be certified in ESE and Pre-K/Primary (or willing to add subject areas
to current certification in compliance with state mandated timelines)
●
Experience: 3+ years of experience working with individuals
with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
●
Skills:
o
Demonstrate reliability, consistent attendance,
and dependability to ensure stability and continuity for young learners.
o
Strong organizational and time management
skills.
o
Excellent communication, documentation, and
collaboration skills.
o
Experience working with technology in a
classroom setting (AAC, Smart Boards, tablets, etc.)
o
Ability to lift forty to fifty pounds.
